KARACHI: Ben Duckett, Harry Brook and bowlers helped England beat Pakistan by 64 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the seven-match T20I series here at the National Stadium Karachi on Friday.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first, which the hosts took advantage of and posted a mammoth 221 runs on the scoreboard before restricting Pakistan to 158-8 in 20 overs.
After batter, Duckett and Brook shined with the bat, scoring 70 and 81 runs, respectively, the touring party’s batters delivered with the ball.
On their return from injury, Reece Topley and Mark Wood were sensational as they toppled the Men in Green’s top-order.
Pakistan openers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who chased down a 200-run target last night, couldn’t continue their top-form as they were sent back to the pavilion after scoring eight runs each off Wood and Topley, respectively.
Meanwhile, Shan Masood, who received his maiden T20I call-up for the England series, was the lone fighter as he smashed 61 runs in 39 balls.
Left-handed batter Khushdil Shah also managed to bag 29 runs in 21 balls.
Wood claimed three wickets and gave away 25 runs, while Topley bagged one wicket and gave away only 22 runs.
Apart from the two, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran took two wickets each.
Earlier, unstoppable Ben Duckett and Harry Brook turned down the volume of a sold-out Karachi crowd as they were glued to their seats following their team’s average bowling display.
Duckett and Brook smacked Pakistan bowlers all around the part to increase the level frustration among the spectators. Neither Haris Rauf nor leg-spinner Usman Qadir could control the flow of runs.
Shahnawaz Dahani, who raced the momentum with the ball last night, got one of the bad days of his career. The right-arm pacer conceded 62 runs in his four overs, second-most by any Pakistan batter in the shorter format.
