We’re now in the Final Four of the 2022/23 EuroLeague season which means there are just a few games left to determine the European champions. While the playoffs were a best-of-five series, the Final Four represents a straight-shootout — it’s one and done for the title hopes — with no second chances or home advantage as Lithuania host the finals.
Olympiacos were the “winners” of the regular season, finishing top of the table with a record of 24-10, one ahead of second-placed Barcelona thanks, in part, to the best defence of the division. It earned them a draw against eighth-placed Fenerbahce in the playoffs but it wasn’t smooth sailing for the Greek side, who traded wins to eventually take the series 3-2.
The Greek side will be looking to reach the final for the first time since 2016/17 when they lost to Fenerbahce and bring home the trophy for the first time in 10 years.
Monaco, meanwhile, finished fourth in the regular season with a record of 21-13 which gave them a playoff tie against the team which finished directly below them, Maccabi Tel Aviv. Like Olympiacos, Monaco needed all five games to beat their playoff opponents 3-2, though they had to come from one game down. Monaco are looking to reach the final for the first time in their history.
When these sides met in the regular season, they shared victories, so expect this to be an even game.
