Montenegro vs Slovakia
International – Friendlies
Date: Thursday, 17 November 2022
Kick-off at 17:00 UK/ 18:00 CET
Venue: Podgorica City Stadium.

We have two teams from the UEFA federation, that will miss out on the World Cup. Both Montenegro, and Slovakia were terrible throughout the Qualifiers, and especially so their defense.

The Montenegrins were part of Group G in the UEFA World Cup Qualifiers, and they had to settle for a fourth-place finish in the table, which consisted of six teams in total.

In fact, the two teams that finished below them were the struggling Latvians, and Gibraltar.

All through the run the team were able to register just three wins, and as one would expect, the three victories were split between the bottom-most two teams. In fact, two of the wins came against the dead-last placed team.

It appears that even now their defense has not been any better. They are letting in goals in plenty still now, and were unable to deliver some good performances at least in front of their home crowd.

Meanwhile, the Slovakians faced heartbreak in the Qualifiers. They finished third in the table, and only the top two teams had any chance of making it to Qatar. And what hurt them most was the fact that the second-placed Russians were later disqualified.

Lately the team has been on a poor streak of performances, and particularly on the road. They do have the confidence of having won the sole h2h clash against this opponent, but at the same time they will have to find a solution for their problems on the road.

Expect a fierce encounter at any cost, as either team will be trying to make amends for having missed out on Qatar. And with two weak defenses on either side, expect a high-scoring affair.

Montenegro lost 0-2 at home the last match-day, against Finland. This was in the Nations League. In fact, they recorded a total of just four wins in the past 20 months, and all along they conceded in plenty.

On the other hand, Slovakia were held to a 1-1 draw at home by minnows Belarus the last game week, and it’s been five months since they were able to record their last win.

In addition, they are on the road, where they have been dealing with their poor defense for quite some time now.

By the looks of things, expect a goal-fest this Thursday.
